Expressive Flowers

I forgot how fun it is to…

paint with tempera paint and on copy paper. Morgan Harper Nichols had this amazing video on abstract strokes and fear. I can’t paint on canvas either. I fear I’ll mess up. I can’t afford to go through canvases like I do paper. It’s been a week since I’ve painted. I had to paint.

My goal is to paint better roses. I love roses. Like the other night, I found this artist on Instagram. I too want to pick up the brush, lather up the paint, mix tones and have my roses bloom before my eyes.

Here’s a few notables:

1. Paint the petals using curved lines. When the paint is almost dry use a moist brush to spread the paint over the white space.

2. A round flat brush gives you good texture.

3. You can layer with a light color and then add details with a darker color.

4. Each petal line begins thin, wide and ends thin. Vary the starting points of these lines.

5. The petal lines are small and get bigger as you move away from the stigma of the flower.

I like the shape and petals of 2,3 and 4. Am I wanting to paint an exact rose? Like the roses on my walks? No. I want roses expressive of how nature makes me feel. I want color. I want texture. In a world of classes and social norms, I can always revel in a rose. I can always carry my thoughts to the moon and the stars.

My paper collage flowers have been wonderful but that’s tomorrow’s post.

Siempre,

magic lives in all of us

Say! I do paint purple flowers. Purple is the color of creativity and spiritual growth. Purple is magical and royalty. Purple was only for a few in the times of kings and queens. Only for a few? Magic and creativity lives in all of us. Power doesn’t come in a crown. Power comes from your inner being. Power comes from, yes I’m getting all Sar Wars, power comes from the force that binds us all. I should paint more purple flowers, lots more flowers!

blue paper roll Bloom

I posted about this yesterday but this bloom deserves it’s own post. I should have scanned this bloom before I threw it out. Yes I threw it out. Sometimes I over analyze the idea. The stigma is too big. I painted with iridescent white when I really wanted a warm white. Only now I wish I hadn’t.

Sometimes ideas work

Sometimes they don’t

Keep going

Keep making

It’s not about the rules

It’s not about judging fools

It’s about doing what you’re doing

bravely in the light

It’s everything but a fight

Oh sometimes there’s struggle to choose

With me you’ll never loose

Learn it

Know it

Love you

Loving me

Oh my, I like writing these poems. Yes you are responsible for your inner experience, Wow so deep and the words of a post from Kute Blackson. Yes love you and know that the trees, breeze and tonight’s moon and stars love you.

I’m ready to add new work to my shop and paint. It’s going to be good.

What to learn from your projects?

Give your creativity a boost with hundreds of ways to paint flowers

To continue learning from me, I had to read Creative Bloom. Good book. Good lessons. What a confidence booster. I truly am inspired to keep painting.

Here’s a list of the lessons I’ve learned:

  • Learning By Heart is a the best book.
  • Look within. The more you look within the more interesting, weird or clever it will be.
  • you are a beautiful soul
  • give yourself time to edit so you can reflect and catch grammar mistakes.
  • No permission needed. I forgot why I started writing books in the first place. I always wanted to publish a book. I always wanted to be an artist.

If you are interested in the book, you can purchase it here.

On how to be an artist

use a paper roll

Thank you for reading and subscribing. I share my work because I believe I was born an artist. In some way we all were. It’s our skills and talents that can help others like a great song that makes you sing or move instead of doubting or worrying. You have to say yes to the idea. Yes to imagination. Yes to play. That’s why flirt with creativity is serene.

At first you surrender to the idea because you want to. Through the process of creating you arrive at the answer, the full intention. It becomes so clear. Paper roll flowers where simply an idea. I wanted to learn how to be an artist by exploring 100 ways to create flowers. Now I want to teach a class. Paper roll flowers are fun because you never know what will happen.

I cold paint like this EVERYDAY

learning to paint flowers with fun tools

Let me see, I used a paper roll to stamp with acrylic paint. Then I used watercolor to fill in the petals. Oh and the stems. This is going to look so much brighter and colorful when I scan it. And yes I do have to erase the thin stem. And the fun didn’t stop there because I used the top of the yellow brush handle to stamp the brown dots.

Painting this flower made me as happy as the yellows and pinks. For hours it was just me, my tools and my ideas. Wait till you see the other flowers. I am excited still. I hope to build and share this community with you. That is what creatively hue is all about. I am dreaming of the workshop and soon to be courses. Yeah. I am going to make many more flowers.

I have made these for my book Creative Bloom. The best part is that there are so many possibilities in how you stamp to how you cut your paper roll. Many many more of these to come.

Ok time to go research a Ranunculus.
