Expressive Flowers

Happy Monday!

Today I’m going to retest some flat brushes I just bought. I’m still looking for a good flat brush set. Oh, and I want to paint another sunflower, paper roll style. I haven’t done college in a while either. I have spring break coming up in a few weeks. I want to head to Los Angeles. If you are in the area and know of any good art happenings do tell! Oh, I could film that? Spring is near and I can’t wait to once again film my blooming beauties and walk underneath my beautiful trees. This beautiful Sunday morning I am feeling better. I’m so grateful that I feel better. I’m hopeful for what’s to come. I also need to take an abstract flower course on skillshare. I’m going to start painting roses and put together my book. It’s going to be great!

Thank you so much for following and being on this art journey with me. I really want to know your thoughts. What’s your favorite tool? I’m looking for a good flat brush set. I’m probably going to be heading to Blick in a week. Can you recommend an abstract floral course on skillshare?

That’s all for now. Go have a wonderful week. See you next time blooming beauties!

Have a good week!

Roses-Painting Tips

pink and orange paint on a ceramic plate

I’ve been painting! Don’t I always? Of course. I’ve been referencing photos, loosely. Then I get to work. When I want to throw it away, the real work begins! Here are my notes.

Tips to Paint Beautiful Roses

  • complementary colors create beautiful palettes (mix a little pink into your green and you’ll see what I mean)
  • soft strokes and crescent moon shapes (keep layering)
  • quiet time makes a difference
  • Ok random shapes and lighter petals blooming outward BUT there’s no right way to paint a flower

My best tip is, to begin. As you paint, you entertain your curiosity. Soon you discover there’s no right way to paint a flower. I forgot about that book. Do you have a tip for painting roses? Comment below. As always thanks for reading.

Roses-You Can Always Make It Work

I am working through the art-to-life workshop. I admit I was unsure yet knowing I need help and hopeful. My color practice is going great. It turns out this is one of the best free workshops I’ve taken. The workshop is about making powerful, stunning, and authentic art. This is exactly what I need! The most important lesson I have learned is if one color doesn’t work, you can paint over it.

Deep Magenta looks more alive against the warm pink. Yellow is a good contrast to the Deep Magena. One of the roses is slightly larger than the other. The yellow acrylic doesn’t layer well. I know that now.

Roses-Gratitude

I got dressed this morning in a pink floral blouse and a pearl-like necklace. As I put on a neutral pink lip gloss I wondered. What will I wear tomorrow and the day after that? Shouldn’t I always enjoy the day no matter the season or festive day? Ok, we can’t always go home with a huge envelope of treats and cards. But we can choose love every day! Valentine’s Day is about love, right? Who assigned love to the heart shape as we know it anyway? These are the thoughts that sometimes boggle my mind. Anyway, today I want to kick off the start of something wonderful. I have been doing sketches and although crayons are fun, it’s not the same as making a mess. I love the color mixing I’ve been doing. In the words of Lizzo, “It’s about time!” Thank you for being a fan. Thank you for being a teacher. I recently opened up comments. Your kind words have been amazing! Thank you my blooming beauties! That’s right Creatively Hue has found a name for its fans. I have the roses project. There’s the wildflower thoughts project. I haven’t forgotten the creative exploration with paper collage course.

Roses-Ornament Peach Roses

…because a field of peach roses will make you feel peachy. Surrounded by peach roses. I stand in the middle of it all, like the missing puzzle piece. Everything and anything is possible. I extend my arms. I’m ready to fly. A breeze and warmth of the sun lingers on my hat and my hair.

There is an idea pin tutorial for these roses on Pinterest.

…and my rose project folder begins.

Here’s a list of what I did but check out the video for step by step photos.

  • Begin with white, green, yellow, red and turquoise
  • Mix various shades of orange ( red and orange)
  • Unify palette by mixing a dot of turquoise to warm up oranges
  • Use a paint brush to paint the bottom of an ornament
  • In a circular motion stamp onto paper
  • Mix white with leftover paint
  • Paint around the stamped circle shapes with a brush
  • Mix blue, green and a little turquoise for the stems and leaves
  • Watch the roses bloom before your eyes

Definitely adding this idea to the book. Roses: a friendship book for the spirit here we come!

Roses-Finger Painting

pink abstract expressive flowers painted with finger painting

Today is the last bloganuary post. The question is, where is the best place to view the sunset. I say…anywhere. The beauty of watching the sunset is you can. You experience the sunset with your eyes and feel it. Right now, for example, I am overlooking mountains full of snow. The skies are blue, the sun is shining and I’m dancing with the breeze. I feel it in my heart. My spirit feels it. “Write poetry and go on with your goals.”

Here we go!

  • Revamp my shop. My shop needs exciting new work
  • Creative Exploration with paper collage (amazing course)
  • New flower logo. I switched the blue flower with a temporary pink flower but I want a pink rose
  • Building my blog (this includes opening comments and new tutorial content)

I forgot to mention books. I have two book projects: wildflower thoughts for a lovely life and my roses book. The pink roses I just painted are a great example of what I need to work on for the roses and these plans. The form is there. I just need to work on the details. Plus I love the texture I made while painting the blue background.

Thank you for following! Thank you for reading! Your kind words and readership is encouraging. Please subscribe and share this content with a friend.

Believe in you

There’s yesterday’s quote. There’s the words from the Aaliyah movie. There’s the verse I read this morning. And I’ve been learning lessons as I work on my roses project. All that matters is what you think of yourself. When I say you I mean your spirit. That’s the light that’s always shining. In the words of Tabitha Brown, believe in yourself because that’s your business.

Ok so today I didn’t paint roses but I worked on color. I need to work on art for the shop. Do you have a print on demand shop? Etsy? Society 6? Redbubble? How’s it working for you? Comment below.

Roses-What do I want to say

All you have to do is believe in your work. That is a very powerful sentence. And yes, I believe in my butterfly.

The hero of my palette is pink. I worked with three colors: turquoise, magenta, and white. I did use a little indian yellow to have orange for my blue. My colors are bright and joyful. The Roses are looking good too. I like referencing my favorite paintings and nature of course. My three colors were on my mind. I thought about the great day I had with my students. I painted.

Today’s bloganuary question is about procrastination. Procrastination scares me. I like to plan. I think too much. I like James Victore’s advice. Learn it. Forget it. Create. I have the skills. I believe in my work.

Roses-show love

Today’s bloganuary question is how do you show love? I think this is my favorite question! I show love with words and paint. Painting helps me relax. Painting helps me express how nature makes me feel. I want to paint all day! My annual physical included a wellness checkup. Am I happy? Do I have hobbies? I am happy! That’s when I realized my nature walks and painting projects give me mindfulness and help me be a better person. Because of my art, I’m patient, optimistic, kind, and loving. I know what you’re thinking, hold on. Art also helps me reflect on the times I’m impatient and egotistical. I’m a loving spirit who happens to be living a human experience. Painting is my freedom of expression. Right now my roses project is helping me learn how to use color and texture to express how nature makes me feel.

So today I’m sharing the above sketch. The rose is below the words there’s room. I sketched this lovely message in the last five minutes of my lunch break. The petals resemble a big smile. Sure I took out my crayons and colored a few sketches. I drew two flower vase arrangements but I didn’t feel like sharing them. Tomorrow I’ll paint blue roses.

Thank you for reading and subscribing because I love that I can share what I do with you.
