Collage Wildflowers

Love source collage flower

Not sure about the title for my next book project but wildflowers are what I paint. Wildflowers are wild and free. On my daily walks, I see these blooms. There’s this lawn. In the spring it was covered with tall grass and random colorful flowers. The way my thoughts meet their color and breeze, as I write the freeness and wild dreams linger. You know when you go for a walk and you begin with a thought. With each step, you let go. With every breath, you dream, you imagine and live your artist dreams. Every bloom I paint has the essence of wild and free.

Everything in nature is wild and free. It’s beautiful. The Just Ask book expresses this wonderfuly. I’m an expressive artist who paints wildflowers. Flowers that are wild and free. With every bloom I paint, I am brighter, bolder, and free. The time is now to let go of all that no longer serves me. Oh, one of my favorite songs is Quiero Ser! Yes my about me page needs revision.

My new book project will be page after page of these collage blooms. Each fower filled with experiences, thoughts and it’ll be a self-love memoir. Maybe. In the meantime, I will keep creating these blooms.

Acrylic Paint Swatches

Student grade. Premium. Hard Body. Soft Body. Fluid. All of these have a special place on my palette.

Today I took the chance to share my art with children. It was the first day of school. What better way to overcome first day nerves than paint. My plan was to have the children paint paper to make butterflies. Oh, but the children had their own ideas!

The textures, the mixing, blending, choosing color, what focus and confidence! Did they make a mess? Yes! Water was spilled on half the table. They didn’t mind. Neither did I. All of the students painted like true artists. No one gave them permission. They just picked up the brush and painted. The other activity was answering a question?

What do I want to be when I grow up?

What does all this have to do with swatching my acrylic paint? Do you want to be an artist? Pick up the paintbrush and paint! Try this. Try that. Try it all. Adjust accordingly. I’ll hold this experience dear as I move forward with this blog and teach my creative collage course.

I showed up to teach them. Yet I was inspired. I’m going to write a poem about this experience. A few Anthropologie-inspired blooms? I’ll finish the blue Blue Wildflowers I started.

Plum Pink Flower

Not sure what to call this bloom.

This bloom was good practice in taking your time. It’s a process. I painted this flower in three sessions. Sometimes, I paint with the notion that an idea has to be finished in one session. The swirl covered up a mistake. It worked!

That is the beauty of art. You can do whatever you want. You keep working and the idea will bloom right before your eyes. There’s power in surrendering to the making. I speak of the making that knows no follower count, no mistakes, no greatness, and no doubt. You can freely mix up a deep purple. So it’s not your ideal color but now you have a deep purple doodle space. Then you can mix up the magenta/plum shade. Oh and the collage details and texture that never would have come had you not made a mistake.

Roses are red

Ok, so I painted my roses pink. That’s the idea. I wasn’t a huge fan of red roses until I saw peach and pink roses. The way the petals curve like v shapes into one another. It makes me think of every element in this world and how everything just is. Let me believe that the roses and breeze are dancing and whispering,” I love you.” Let me believe it so, because it’s true!

Just a Sunday in Summer Thought

Today I want to share some quotes. These words are filled with the vibes I’m feeling and thinking.

pink and orange paint on a ceramic plate

Nature doesn’t hurry, yet everything is always accomlished.

Tabitha Brown

Color was not given to us to imitate nature. It was give to us to express our emotions.

Henri Matisse

Nature is beautiful. Nature is so colorful, different and unique. Nature is the only true masterpiece. I must do something with that thought. Maybe a book or a zine? An art print? Yesterday, I was walking through a row of trees. I could feel the breeze, and the birds were singing. I can still feel the breeze. Tabitha’s words came at the moment when I was reflecting on my journal. I’ve been working on a flower idea every day.

I let go. I can sit and take the time to paint. Painting takes time. You have to have the quiet time where you just paint. Maybe you can put on your music, dance a little. Or have a cup of tea. You don’t have to be anywhere or do anything. You don’t need a lot of time. Some days I paint for and hour or two and others 30 minutes. There was another artist, EttaVee who posted about working early in the morning before her girls get up.

I’m grateful for my painting sessions. I got the memo loud and clear. Focus on the process. Have fun with color and BE. Some ideas will start out great and then flop. Others will be a complete turn around BUT there’s a gem in EVERY painting. I’m going to keep learning and growing.

If you want to be happy

Not sure why but the song, if you want to be happy for the rest of your life popped into my mind. I suppose at that moment I was feeling the breeze from all the trees surrounding my home. I had just come home from a wonderful walk. I started collaging and at that moment I sang the lyrics, if you want to be happy for the rest of your life paint colorful blooms. Ok, I changed the ending, but I can still feel the breeze.

Blending is Beautiful

This flower represents why I create. I take ideas never knowing how they’ll turn out and start creating. This type of creating comes from me. There’s no fear or doubt. Fear is always there but, in these moments, only idea patters. There’s this voice that tells me keep going. I know I need more of that in my whole life.

I painted the bloom on copy paper. The blending is beautiful! The stem and leaves didn’t come out good, but collage paper was the answer. Stamping with the round handle of a craft brush added a little more fun to this flower. I should add a little more space around the flower, so this bloom feels like it was painted on a dot wall.
