Lessons I’ve learned As An Artist This Week

Hello! Before I continue with today’s post I want to share a posting agenda. Every Sunday I’ll post the art lessons I’ve learned throughout the week. Every Wednesday I’ll post an update on my current project including tips. I’ll be posting a random tutorial post on one of the other days. Ok, let’s get this post started.

These are the lessons I’ve learned as an artist this week.

In-between state of mind

At the first sign of mistakes, I’II want to start over. I haven’t felt the need to start over! Ok, I threw out a few sheets of paper because I made a mess with the paint BUT I work in peace. I don’t think about the work being good or bad. Sometimes I do but then I choose to keep painting.

Abundance Mindset

I’ve been blogging for a long time. Every day there are more of you. Thank you so much! And I appreciate the kind feedback. I want to believe that I encourage all of you to paint and or add joy to your days. When I read your comments I say, “Really? You think my roses are beautiful? I’m in the practice phase.” I forget that what makes art wonderful is there’s room for all of us! We can all be given the task to paint a rose. How we paint the rose is art. There’s no right way to paint a rose! By the way abundance mindset is a term I borrowed from Ettavee.

Have a little plan

Neocolours are water-soluble crayons. Before I paint, I sketch with Neocolour crayons. When I hold a Neocolour in my hand it reminds me of crayons. And crayons are childhood. These crayons help me keep art loose, exploratory, and playful!

Sometimes I’ll set up my favorite color and sketch. Or I’ll think of how the orange roses on my walk made me feel and I paint! Most of my process is anything goes. There’s this artist who likes to mix up paint right on the canvas instead of a palette. All these little ideas help me start. All you have to do is start. You don’t have to know how to paint. Just paint! I’m fact if you’re thinking I don’t know how, you’re doing it wrong.

So basically it’s the little plans that create the state of mind and state of mine welcomes the abundance mindset.

Thanks for reading and being a part of creatively hue. What you think of these tips? The blog agenda? Comment below.

Roses-You’re the Artist. You’ve Got This!

I do? I am? I am! I’ve been getting good feedback for my pink roses skillshare project. These expressive flowers were painted for a Skillshare class. There were many revisions. I was able to overcome uncertainty. That emotion flowed through. I have a good rhythm.

Now I’m not worried about what the artwork will like. Not going to lie, the thoughts are there but there not at my center. Yesterday’s post did give me clarity.

Painting expressive abstract roses with acrylic paint

With all of this goodness, I painted blue roses. The first layer was a mess. Then I added a second layer of darker blue, used my finger to blend the petals, and explore leaf shapes. As I dotted the centers of the flower, I thought of the actual roses I had seen in Heritage Square. Like a true artist, I just want to paint and share that. Some of my best moments are creating with students.

Roses and Sunflowers

Hello! My journaling is interesting to look at. I usually spend at least 30 minutes journaling. Today’s project was at least an hour. I enjoy the freedom of using cheap paper. Acrylic paint is a confidence builder. If I don’t like what I see, I can add to it. That’s what happened with these two flowers. I started with fluorescent pink. Then I applied a pink layer and finished with a layer of sun-kissed vanilla. I did the same adding variations of green for the leaves. I added blue because that seems to be my color. I’m engaged in the process and that’s what makes my work interesting.

I should try layering and mixing with watercolor. I’m enjoying the work I’m producing. It expresses how I feel about nature and what I want for my roses project.

I started doodling ideas for flower quote t-shirts. That lead to intersting readings on the meaning of flowers. More on that in an upcoming post. I’m still looking for a good journal. I want a large enough size that I can scan and reproduce as prints and the Roses book.

As always thank you for reading, I do share more content on Instagram and Pinterest. What are you working on? Comment below.

Roses-Spirit of Love Bouquet

pink and oragne roses in a blue mug vase

…but in fact, today it is the amateur–the enthusiast who pursues her work in the spirit of love..

Yes, that’s me! The words of Show Your Work go on to say that amateurs aren’t afraid to make mistakes and don’t think about looking ridiculous because they are in love with their work. I’m obsessed. I’m an artist! Art is what I do! I’ve never painted roses before. I paint expressive and abstract wildflowers.

Yet here I am painting roses and building content for the roses book. The roses book will be a friendship book for the spirit, the soul–my spirit, and my soul. What if I share my heart and people shatter it. Can they really? No.

I want to paint the way roses make me feel when I’m out for my walk. I see white roses and that purity and innocence captivate me. I imagine and wonder. It’s beautiful. When I create I don’t care about what others think. It’s not even on my radar. As I painted Spirit of Love I made mistakes. I kept painting. And I’ll keep painting.

Let today’s post be about painting with the spirit of love. Far too often, we define ourselves by outside forces instead of relying on intrinsic value. The passion, the voice is here, always has been.

Thank you so much for reading. Please subscribe and share this with your friends.

Roses-Pink Bouquet

I pinned all of these floral arrangements. I’ve started painting them. Today I had to paint pink roses.

Except for the outline of the roses and the leaves, I love these blooms. I was supposed to finish the paper collage piece I’m working on. My shop needs new work. That’s ok! I’m confident that all this practice will lead to fabulous art prints, books…

Bloganuary is almost over. One more day left in January! That means I’ll be going back to posting three days a week. I’ll be working on the roses project, a little poetry, my new course, and anything else I’ll think of. I’m always thinking of something. I just realized my word of the year is de colores. My phrase of the year is de colores. I want to paint more viva magenta.

Roses-Inspirational Quote

I had a fantabulous time painting today. It’s going to be better. As I’m being a fan of other people’s blogs, I came across this quote.

Speak your heart. If they don’t understand, the message was never meant for them anyway.

I didn’t get who wrote it but I believe in my work!

Roses-failed pieces need love

I found this incredible quote. It’s part of my momentum right now.

What every artist must learn is that even the failed pieces are essential.

Rob Bell

I mixed up blues and pinks. Did this yesterday. The strokes went from hard to soft. The petal shapes were looking good. My pinks were bright but when I layered over the warm blue…I almost gave up. Instead I took a break and painted these. Good idea!

During the creative process, there will be ugly or doubtful work. The beauty of acrylic is you can layer. You can try to make it work. Many times it will. I think I made these magenta roses work. Other times it’s just good practice. Now I know I need a detailed acrylic brush. Wait, I think I can use all these lessons I’ve learned to paint full-page roses arrangements. Sounds like an expressive abstract roses book of friendship for the spirit. I like it!
