painting trees with a q-tip

pint tree painted with acrylic paint

This tree didn’t make it in the book but here it is. I used a round q-tip.

purple hand painted tree with brush texture

This one was painted with an angled q-tip. The idea behind this purple tree is that art can be anything you want it to be. You can create art from literally anything you want. In my case a q-tip.

I’m reminded of a few words in a book I started reading. They are purpose, persitence and a burning desire.

I’ve thought and THOUGHT about these words. I recognize persitence and burning desire sometimes get lost. And that confuses my purpose.

We all have purple ideas. Or as Seth Godin says. a purple cow.

But it’s up to us to stand up with our purpose, persist along the way as others laugh because hey, our desire is burning.

The right tools or…

the right attitude

I say attitude makes all the difference.

The one on the right is awesome. The one on the left needs work.

I definitely used the wrong paper and the wrong brush but still painted an awesome flower.

The right attitude always wins!

Painting a new book cover

I did recently discover a new use for his facial brush. I do have to paint a new book cover for Wise Trees.

I love the texture and I really see this working. It’ll be lovely. I’ll touch up the color and up the size.

Next step is to review a few elements from my favorite books.

lovely textures

These textures of past projects are looking good. It felt good to hold the paper in my hand and sporadically feel a horse or a turtle emerge. I believe I needed to feel curiosity in this moment.

I have to admit, collage work is a lot harder than I thought. I suppose there is a big reason why Eric Carl painted his textures on tissue paper. Tissue is probably a lot easier to cut than 140 Ib. watercolor paper. I just painted all of these lovely colors and they make the perfect animals. I want to demonstrate that our world and everything is beautlfully, colorfully connected.

I can’t believe my week off has come and gone. I do feel a sense of renewal, motivation for lots more projects. I cut up squares of various textures so I could transform them into letters. Wow I love when this happens…

It’s a beautiful day!

teaching art…

Here’s what I’ve learned teaching children the fun of art.

Everyone loves art,

Be it a song or paint, art keeps no one apart.

I’m an artist and there’s no one that paints like me.

BUT together we really did create a masterpiece.

Everyone needs a safe place.

There’s so much your eyes shouldn’t see, too many you shoulds or can’ts to erase.

Picking up the brush leads to forgetting, forgetting the paint brush and using your thumb.

Or opting out of water while using watercolor, oh the textures and the trees leave my voice numb.

I have to keep creating…my books…my words…. it’s as obvious as the nose on my face.

I suppose I will and must protect this happy place.

There’ll be ups and downs, lots of downs but through it all ,I shall cling tight because I hold the Ace of Spades.

Room 12 you forever have my heart.

Doodles

Yes these groovy glasses

are cute and perfect for the stop reading page.

This tree has to happen. Yeah these are much more interesting to look at.

Oh I can use Audrina’s dry brush technique to create he tree.

This book is going to be awesome.

We had fun

No words can express how I feel.

This picture sums it up quite well.

We had fun.

Watching you paint felt like warmth from the sun.

What I’ll remember the most is how you painted.

How you created, with all the confidence in the world.

Remember that you are an artist in every sense of the word.

Art is original, it can change us and make us smile,

just like a song you get in your head for a looong while.

Keep on creating because the world is waiting.

Eric Carle Collage Art

It’s amazing what a group of students can do with a little water, paper, watercolor paint and a paint brush.

First step is to create awesome textures…

Mission accomplished!

I ‘ll never forget the lessons I learned. The biggest is that painting, creating and encouraging others to embrace their masterpiece is… my world.

Live your story is all about embracing your style, tapping into that artist within. AND that’s what painting with these kids has been about.

I sure do feel like anything is possible…

the right color…

these days it’s blues and greens. I do bask in the glory of nature. I know there’ll be a few trees in the book…

What happended to this trunk? At a second glance, I can see the inspiration from all the unusually beautiful trees I’ve been collecting on pinterest. Yeah I like it.

The next step is to work on all of my blues and build the right color scheme.

Color you have my heart

Curiosity, imagination and paint, with you I shall never part

Pink and gray, will you work together?

Yes, oh I could do this forever.

Blue, pink and green, with every stroke you literaaly check my BLUES

I’ll create. I ‘ll CREATE

I have the power. I’ll show ’em this is my fate.

…there are no impossibilities

Better Days

It’s always a better day when I paint.

Seriously, I tried doing something I’m not good at. I was trying too hard. Then I sat on a Friday night and repainted.

Oh goodness…

much better

I did include hand lettering on my to-do list.
