Surprising ways to use a candle lid

There I was with some leftover paint. I’ve been reading about block printing and how to make stamps.

Sure I painted usual flowers but I wanted to stamp. With the lid in my had I had an idea. Paint the floral design and stamp. The stamp visibility depends on the how much paint you apply. Adding water makes the paint thinner and works beautifully too.

Oh and the fun doesn’t stop here. I could get some plain cream or light brown fabric and stamp along a a table runner. I could stamp on a wall? for the garden? I’d need different paint of course.

Some other ways I’ve used the lid…

The lid by the way, is a lid from a Bath and Body Works Candle. I wonder what else in my house could make a stamp? Aren’t you curious? Go create. If you discover something then tag me on instagram @hellomireya

See you tomorrow.

Purple Palm Print Flowers

This is similar to painting a donut on your palm and stamping. I applied paint to the the very botton of my palm. At the same time I turned the paper stamping in a circular motion. Purple is the color of confidence and creativity. The photo is a little dark. There’s a familiar breeze.

…an artist doesn’t need fancy tools, just her favorites. She needs to BE free.

Spring Tree + Watercolor

Rpund 2 of painting this tree.

watercolor pink and peach tree

Today I tested out permanent rose. Made tones of peach and yellow with my brush. I painted. With every dab of paint, the gloom seemed to fade away. AND then it hit me. The wonder of nature is a reminder that love is real. The heart shape in the lower right corner was a nice surprise. I painted what I felt. I really need to get higher quality paper. Tomorrow’s Calla Lillies will be painted with a slightly higher quality paper.

Ok as always thanks for reading! Day by day there’s more of you! I would love to see what you’re creating? Tomorrow I’ll spend so time visiting blogs and pinterst pages. Tag me @hellomireya.

Stay healthy!

Ebook Preview

The ebook is here. I am so proud of the book. This book is available for 2.99 for a limited time. I’m adding a few changes before I release the paperback. Today I worked on a few more collages. Maybe the peacock should make the cover? BUT I like the blue too much. This reminds me of me. I’m good with color. I enjoy color, I’m great with ideas. It’s the how part that I go back and forth with.

The best tool we have as artists is to trust in ourselves. We have to trust ourselves to create our best work. These days I get an ideas and if it works great. If the ideas is a flop then who cares. I take notes and never lose hope. Hope is action.

Today recharge by listening to a podcast. Two awesome ones are Creative REBELS and James Victorie. Well James goeas live daily on instagram. Lots more work to come. More creative exploration ideas. I’ve been busy and loving every moment. I added a new shop section to my projects page. The other paperback is also available here.

Have a good day! Enjoy the book. What are you working on? tag me on instagram @hellomireya.

Collage Lettering + Scrapbook Paper

I choose my scrapbook paper like I do my paint. I walk the displays and pay attention to what catches my eye, no particular project in mind. If I happen to be out of a certain color I’ll pick it up. This next book is going to be called You Are Loved. Earth loves You is no longer good for the theme of the book. Wait this reminds me of a brilliant idea to end the book. I’ll do it!!

The lemon pattern gave me this whole when life gives you lemons vibe.

Today’s creative idea.

Use leftover texture painted paper, scrapbook paper, white ink pen, and paint over an art print that didn’t work out. The idea here is that lemons on their own are sour but when you combine then with good then that’s magic.

We can should learn and be empowered by our mistakes and trials. As we develop that into a positive then we open doors. Focus on the sour bitterness of the lemon and you won’t get far. Focus on the infinite possibilites like chicken, bars, candy, cake, fruit, tea, drink, ice cream, pasta and so much more.

I really like the colors and the idea. Every day I’ll be working on an idea like this. This is a celebration of spring and a compilitation of prints for my next book. Speaking of, I got the full color editor edition of my book Live Your Love Story on Saturday. I’m so excited and I’ll share that tomorrow. I did post a preview video @hellomireya.

As always thanks for reading. I hope you have as much fun as I did creating and writing this book. I would love to know what you are working on? If you tried any of my ideas? Email at senditomireya@yahoo.com

AND I should change this up and choose paper that I wouldn’t choose, colors that I typically don’t work with to see what I come up with.

How many ways to draw a leaf

This idea all started with creative exploration. I shared that post here. Basically you divide a page in small squares. In each you explore ideas. I really like the idea of dark textures and white ink.

Truth be told, I saw a pencil pouch with this same pattern and that led to the first page of the Earth loves you. Not sure I’m going to call the book that but it works for now.

Yes I have been deep in thought, sometimes worry. Then I walk in nature. The flowers and leaves make me smile. I miss that so much. I still go for walks but I’ve been painitng spring. This idea is that leaves can be anything you want them to be. The choice is yours. There are countless ways to draw, paint or sketch a leaf. You could do collage with newspaper magazines or Eric Carly style. You could stamp them or wait, use fallen leaves to stamp with. I could go on and on. That’s the point. Learn to draw. Then draw what you please! DRAW THE WAY YOU WANT TO DRAW. We do that as kids and then somehow we start drawing what we think we should. Byt theway the color looks amazing and it will when I scan it.

The crazy thing is I’m not one for details like this. I don’t like adult coloring books. I sat. With every white ink stroke, I felt peace. I honestly felt good. Today I looked at my work and thought, Wow this is good. Who knew I could paint like this. I love painting. This week I’ll share my hand lettering and quotes. My big tasks this week are to edit Different Is Beautiful and paint illustrations for the next book. I’m thinking of writng simple hand written notes to self?

Have a good week and take care! Thanks for reading! Make sure you subscribe if you like this blog. Tag me on instagram or pinterst @hellomireya. I’d love to see your work.

New Art Work + Good Vibes

Just wanted to share a side by side comparison of this print. The painted version didn’t work out the first time for obvious reasons. I see a little something else I want to fix but this beautiful blue print is ready for the shop. I did spend an hour tweaking but this process helped me work on digitizing and getting work done.

Lots more art to come. What project are you working on? Tag me @hellomireya on Instagram or Pinterest. Yes, I want to see your work too. Email me. If you have a blog or website I’d love to read it. Use the contact form. It’s always good to support each other. I appreciate your suport. Thanks so much again for reading. I’m taking this graphic design course and learning how to redesign my website. If you like what you read then click the like button. I check the stats. This will give me more ideas on what to post. I have lots more projects and fun to share.

Creative Exploration

New tools and new techniques. This is an old image but it makes sense here too. I’ve begun creative exploraion. This weekend I painted mushrooms. I’ve just started the first layer.

I’m taking this skillshare course, Acrylic painting for beginners. This is a great course in using your paints for more than painting from the tube. Days before I had begun mixing blue with all the other colors in my palette. This class uses this technique to build a cohesive color scheme.

This week I’ll be making a list of ideas I want to try. I almost forgot I was working on painting nature made heart shapes. Today I saw a lovely variety of clouds. The hearts covered in gray clouds held a few hearts. Wait a minute, I have an idea. I can’t believe it’s the second week in March already. This week I’ll be working on cleaning up my files, getting rid of old work and building a to-do list. I’ll be positing some more collage work and ideas. You’ll see some of my lettering practice. I really want to test all of my brushes and see how they write. Maybe I should invest in some watercolor markers. I’m really interested in drawing my words with acrylic or maybe even color pencils. My acrylic writing sometimes looks great but most of the time its a mess. Do you know of any resources?

Thanks for reading and subscribe. Spring is almost here! There’s lots to come.

Collage Animals 2

There were so many animals that I didn’t realize existed. Others I never fully apreciated. I suppose the same can be said about each one of us. We all have something that makes us beautiful. Which reminds me of an interesting National Geographic article. It was about why we’re so afraid of snakes. It was about King Cobras being shy. I’ve yet to finish the article but wow I’m speechless.

So we judge, criticize and undervalue each other? it’s certainly something to think about.

By the way book creating is complicated. It’s all in the details and editing. My Live Your Love Story paperback came in the mail yesterday and all of my illustrations are in black. Not what I planned but I think I like it. You can see the book on instagram @hellomireya Let me know what you think.
