Day of The Dead skull with acrylic gouache

What ecactly is acrylic gouache? It is acrylic paint that you can mix with water, which is what I do with regular acrylic. This paint is also opaque and thick that mixing with water is much easier than with acrylic.

I wanted the green to be more of a yellow ochre but it works for mixing beautiful orange tones. This is turning out good. Not like the three variants I trashed. I have been drawing for a long time and yesterday was bad. During this session I started this calavera, painted halloween ideas. and a quick quote.

You have good days and sometimes you don’t

Have a safe Halloween. This weekend I’ll be finishing some class work and getting ready for the next project.

Painting Blue Circles

What to do with these circles? I need watercolor practice. Circles are an easy shape to paint. Are they fish, flowers. pumpkins? I could paint orange circles and use a black pen to draw in the jack o’ lantern faces. Monsters? Spiders? oranments?

I didn’t have a layout in mind. All I know is that each circle is a peaceful blue. Each circle small or large connects with one. Like us.

If you paint circles please tag me on instagram or pinterest @creativelyhue.com

Let The Kid Work

Here’s round 2 of my sporadic lettering ideas. Is this hand lettering in the typical sense. I hope not. I’ve been creating to see where the idea takes me. Sometimes you see artists-kids- sharing their work with excitement because of the idea. There’s no perfection. I observe this with artists from time to time. I know there’s lots of practice to get to the free to fail creative state. Skill is important but what everything really comes down to is mindselt.

Think of some quotes. Halloween ones. Write. Create. No Helvetica unless there’s good reason too. I am going to paint some fun halloween crafts. Purple spider. Or Green.

Still of the night

I hope so.

The ok Work

I have two piles of collage lettering. This one is the ok pile. The pile I came up with on Saturday was the good pile. Really good. So why I am I showing you the ok pile? Let’s just say the you rock is in the trash. We all have this kind of work. The work that is rarely seen in all it’s imperfections. In creating these I had one plan. Create to let the idea find me. Interestingly, I was listening to a talk with the same idea. The artist talked about having two revision piles. The first is the free to fail idea pile. The second is where you observe and make connections. Wait, Corita Kent taught the same idea.

On second thought, this pile is good. The second is the great pile. I couldn’t have arrived at the great with out the freedom to learn, grow and fail.

Make Someone’s Day

Here I go again with crazy ideas. I’ve been looking at print on demand to diversify my income. I was in the middle of that when right there in my email was an updated project with a kind review. It made my day because it made someone else’s day too. The review is from a class I teach on skillshare.

This is a great class to get you going. It’s short and to the point.

You can head over to skillshare sign up for a 14 day free trial and take my class with many others. I started out on skillshare. I’ll add the direct link later. Right now I’m on my way to buy some chocolate. Yay. Class link

Here’s the lemon. The candle lid floral stamp is hardly visible, Tracing paper may not be the best option for stamping. I do like this simple lemon and the idea is even better. I should have taken more care in gluing the lemon. Somehow the unintended bubbles reinformace my thought. Lemons like life’s problems can be too bitter to eat alone. What makes a world of difference is knowing that just the right amount of lemon makes good chicken or bars. The choice is always ours. I write and create the advice I need.

I can’t believe it’s Friday again. I have been painitng lots of new work. Much of it is me saying I’m gong to paint. I don’t know what I’ll paint. Or paint corn but end up painting lemons and leaves. Oh I painted curcles and a cactus. Collage lettering. Life is truly better when I paint what I want. I am better.

Have a good weekend. I’ll probably do a weekend post.

A Collage Orange for you

Making collage fruit is fun. I had a few leftover scraps and I began cutting leaves. Then this lemon idea popped in my head. I had the words. Only problem is this lemon is an orange. Now I am going to paint yellow and green paper.

Oranges are nature’s gift to keep us healthy and beautiful. Yes we nust eat and do what is good for us.

What if it doesn’t work out?

Here’s a good example of what work looks like sometimes. Work isn’t perfect. Work is messy. Work is you letting go of what you think it should be. Like life, there is always a plan but at some point the plan changes. The real idea emerges and you only find it when you let go. I am really liking the blue thumbprint flower.

The world series games begin. Two teams want to win. The one who wins will be the one who can powerfully play the game. Play the game with heart. No prize. No millions of fans waiting to ruckus the streets. What’s this game have to do with my creative zone.

Creative for you. For a better you. That’s what creativelyhue is all about. When the pink flower doesn’t work out make amends. Layer with blue. I like the pink that mixed with the blue. Outlining it with a blue pencil makes it come together. Sure I have some cropping to do but…
